For over 10 years, Woolshed Thurgoona Landcare Group have run an annual plant giveaway, where we provide a variety of native species free of charge to residents. Thanks to generous funding grants, we not only supply these plants but also promote their benefits—encouraging more residents to incorporate native flora into their gardens.
Our mission is to enhance native vegetation across the Albury region, creating vital habitats for our precious local wildlife. The project provides free local native plants to community members, with the outcomes of increasing knowledge of local indigenous species and increasing backyard biodiversity in the Albury community.
The Native Plant Giveaway is held around May/June each year. Woolshed Thurgoona Landcare volunteers participate in the ordering, sorting and staging of the plant giveaway and planting days.
Over the years, we have distributed more than 26,500 native plants, with over 20,000 going directly to the community through our giveaway, and more than 5,000 supporting local schools and community planting projects.
A heartfelt thank you to Clubs NSW (2025), Rotary Club of Bellbridge Lake Hume (2025), Hume Bank (2024), Albury City (2018-2022) and Murray Local Land Services (2015-2017) for their support. Your contributions have helped foster a greener, more wildlife-friendly environment across Thurgoona, Wirlinga, and Table Top and adjacent areas.
